In this blog, we answer all your questions about how to become a qualified lash technician.
Do I Need A License?
No. You do not need a license to practice as a lash technician. However, it is negligible to practice without the correct training, qualifications and insurance. Without the right qualifications, you are putting your customers at risk of harm.
Plus, without insurance, you are running the risk of being sued and losing your livelihood. Before you can be insured, the insurance company will ask for proof of your qualifications. This is why it is key to undergo proper training and obtain your qualifications before you begin to offer lash services to customers.
What Qualifications Do I Need To Become A Lash Technician?
There are various lash technician training courses and qualifications available. The majority are very similar. To become a professional lash technician and trade publicly, you should complete a fully-accredited lash technician course and have the correct certification.
At Posh Look, our online courses are fully accredited by ABT and our funded courses are regulated by an awarding body called Focus Awards, which provides Ofqual Regulated Qualifications.
How Long Does It Take To Become A Lash Technician?
That depends on the training course you choose. Some training courses, specifically online courses, can be done in your own time (and during the COVID-19 pandemic). You also have to carry out several case studies before you can be certified, which may take weeks.
Other training courses are intense and can be completed in just one day. At Posh Look, we offer a variety of one day training courses including an online Semi Permanent Lash course. However, even once you have achieved your certification, you may not be ready to start charging customers for your lash services.
There is more to becoming a lash technician than a certificate. It takes a lot of practice and patience to strengthen your skills and master the techniques. You may even decide to do another intermediate training course.
Before you charge customers for your lash services, you should be able to confidently apply lash pads correctly, prep and prime the lashes and apply the lashes correctly. You should also be skilled in maintaining and removing lashes safely.
Choosing A Lash Technician Course
When choosing a lash technician course, there are various factors to consider:
- Is it a professional, trustworthy training school?
- Is the course fully-accredited? Will I receive certification from an awarding body?
- How long does the course last? Is it full time, part-time or a one day course?
- What does the course cover?
- Where does the course take place? Is it online?
- It is affordable?
- Does the training school and course have positive reviews?
How Much Do Lash Technician Training Courses Cost?
Again, the price of the course depends on the training school and the type of course you choose. At Posh Look, our Online Semi-Permanent Lash Course costs £195.
As well as the training platform, training manual, videos and ongoing support, this also includes a starter kit with the essential products you will need to pass the mandatory units on the course.

Once Qualified…
Once you are a fully qualified lash technician, you need to obtain insurance, especially Public Liability Insurance and Products Liability Insurance.
You should also consider getting Treatment Risk Insurance (or Treatments Liability cover) and Personal Accident and Sickness Insurance (if you are self-employed). Some insurance companies provide insurance packages specifically for beauty professionals.
