How Long Does It Take To Become A Nail Technician?

Posh Look training school

In this blog, we’re going to outline how long it takes to become a nail technician and highlight the best nail technician course for you. We’ll also answer some of the most frequently asked questions about becoming a nail technician.

How Long Does It Take To Become A Nail Technician?

Becoming a qualified nail technician takes 18 weeks. That is if you choose Posh Look’s professional, fast-track Level 3 Nail Technician Day Course. Alternatively, if you opt for the Level 3 Nail Technician Evening Course, it will take you 22 weeks to become a qualified nail technician.

With Posh Look, you will have the skills and knowledge to begin your career as a certified nail technician in less than 5 months.

Many training schools within the UK offer courses of similar lengths. However, some training schools or colleges provide nail technician courses that can take between 6 and 9 months.

Classroom Based Nail Technician Courses

At Posh Look, we offer classroom-based nail technician courses across our three training sites; Rawtenstall, Rochdale and Widnes. Our courses are carried out in COVID-secure classrooms, where PPE is essential, and social distancing is carried out for your safety.

The Nail Technician Day course involves compulsory attendance one day a week (Thursday) from 9:30am until 3pm for 18 weeks. Whereas the evening course (which is suited to people who work during the day), involves compulsory attendance one day a week (Thursday) from 6pm to 9pm for 22 weeks.

Assessments, extra work, practice and revision must be carried out at home, in your own time each week. With both the Day and Evening Nail Technician Courses, you will receive access to our dedicated online platform, which features in-depth tutorials and expert guides.

You can also use the platform to upload your work and assessments. You will have an on-hand tutor to help with every module and assess your work through the course. Necessary work must be submitted at a level 3 standard by the deadlines set by your tutor.

Do I Need To Buy Equipment For My Nail Technician Course?

Starter kits will be provided as standard when you enrol on any of our beauty courses. Plus, professional lamps are available for you to use in class for assessments.

You will need to pay £24.00 for your PoshLook uniform, which should be worn during your training. You are also encouraged to buy 2x face cloths, 2x hand towels, 1x A4 folder, 1x pack of dividers, 1x pen and 1 roll of kitchen roll. If you would like to learn acrylic bead pick-up during your course, you may also want to purchase an acrylic brush and liquid (monomer).

Can I Charge Clients Once Certified?

Yes! Once you have completed the course, you will receive an official certificate and will be a qualified nail technician.

However, before you begin providing nail services to clients, you should first ensure you have insurance. Public Liability insurance and Products Liability insurance are particularly important.

You should also consider getting Treatment Risk Insurance (or Treatments Liability cover) and Personal Accident and Sickness Insurance (if you are self-employed). Some insurance companies provide insurance packages specifically for beauty professionals, such as nail technicians.

You should also bear in mind that it takes time and practice to refine your skills and build on your experience. Perfection doesn’t happen overnight!
